Evaluation 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my media product will be ages from 16 to 40. People who listen to alternative rock are seen as being rebels, anarchists or protestors but that’s just a stereotype. It seems to be the younger generation and the older generation who likes this genre, but it seems to be more on the younger generations so that is who I will be aiming my media product at. So this will be mainly early teens to mid-twenties.

I have some of the bands on the page and they aren’t just one type of people, it seems to be a wide range of people who create and listen to this genre of music. Some of the artist that creates alternative rock music are people such as Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party. All of these artists are different on how they look and what type of alternative rock they create so they will attract different types of audiences to their music, but they all originate from the same place. So this means I will have to appeal to all of their audiences. Personally I listen to all of these artists so I thought the typical people who listen to this genre would like similar things to me, also I did a questionnaire earlier on so I will know things from there.

When I looked at my target audience and researched them I came to allot of different views. So I will have to generalise all of the views of my target audience. The areas of my target audience I looked at were music, clothes, shops and TV shows. A couple of shops that most of the younger generation go to is places like Topman or Debenhams, this covers most of the younger generations. From these they can get casual clothes like t-shirts, jeans, jackets, shirts, ect. In Topman and Debenhams they sell big brands like Converse all-star and Levis. These brands are popular within my target audience as I have seen them with these in public places. These can also lead to shops like Schuh.  Also I have seen people who listen to alternative rock shop at vintage shops purchasing leather jackets, so that widens up the range of what my target audience likes to wear and where they shop.
It is a very difficult thing finding out on what programs my target audience like to watch. But based on my opinions as I listen to alternative rock, I like to watch comedies such as two and a half men, modern family and facejacker. I also like to watch music channels such as Q. So I am going to say this is what my target audince like to watch.

I think that my magazine will draw in this target audience because it is a similar styling to a normal magazine but it still has its own special thing to it. The normal styling will appeal to the part of my target audience who likes to wear Levis and Topman and the original part will appeal to them who shop at vintage shops a purchase real leather jackets. I used headlines and images that I thought would draw them into the magazine. The models wear clothes that my target audeince would wear, such as jeans and a leather jacket. Also I have tried not to make the magazine bias to a certain gender but it seemed like more males were artists in the alternative music genre so I used male models so they could relate to the people in the images more. And finally the price I have given the magazine is £2.50 which is a competitive pricing for a music magazine. This is a similar pricing for a magazine but my target audience is the younger generations so I thought a lower pricing would draw them into the magazine.
