Research into conventions of magazines

Magazine title which is included in every issue that is published by metal hammer. It is across the top on every issue and is the same font.
The banner over the magazine title showed that this is an important this issue has got something special inside it, different from others.
Main headline of Bring me the Horizon, it is big, brightly coloured and outlined black so the readers can see what this issue is based around. This also shows the genre of this type of magazine.
Lists of band that is also included in this issue. It is only in a brief summary of the artists in the magazine. They are all in the same size font, style and colour to show that they are all equal.
Puff offering that you could win a guitar. This would attract readers as it is offering freebies to any reader.
Puff in the bottom right corner stating that there are more bands to be seen inside. Black, white and yellow to stand out from the rest.
Barcode is a big part of the magazine. They are used to actually sell the product. It is positioned to be out of the way of the main content of this magazine. It has been positioned to it takes up as little space as possible.
Image is the main story of this issue. This is shown as it has been enlarged to be seen by the readers and is in the centre as it is the main story. It acts as the background but has been layered to be in front of things, making it also jump out.

The masthead at the top of the page is slightly behind the main picture. The title is bold and black which stands out with the white background, this is to make sure people can clearly see the title of the magazine. Even though the picture covers some of the title we still know it is rocksound and the circle round the “R” also shows that it is rocksound as it is a unique logo.
Image of Skrillex is big, covering most of the magazine showing the power of this person. It shows he is important as he is in front of the title at the top. Also with what he is wearing, it contrasts with the white background therefor making him stand out more.

Freebies on the puff in the top left corner next to the main title, this make sure that the readers will see this offer. Also the colour of this offer is in yellow again making this stand out from the rest of the page.

 All the text is in capital letters and the same font giving the readers familiarity with the magazine. This makes them commutable with the magazine.

At the right hand side there are cover lines showing that there are other big bands inside this magazine. The names of the bands are either black or white which make it easier to see. Also two of these cover lines have yellow boxes which are buzz words around them, trying to tell the readers that this is a must read article.
The main feature anchors the images, stating that this man is Skrillex and for people who don’t know him they do now. It is also edge to edge making sure that no one misses this. The colour and the font of this attracts the readers eye towards it as it is in your face, saying this is new, look at this.

Again there are cover lines down the other side of the page, showing what is on this free track the reader will get with this magazine when they purchase this.

 The strip across the bottom shows that there is more inside the magazine. It shows a few bands that are featured inside. This stands out because of the light blue colour with the black and white text.

The masthead of this page includes the title of this magazine which is “NME”. This shows attitude, as this sounds like enemy. It is in a bold font and colour, so is easy to see and stands out. The colours are also easy on the eye with the white outlining and the black box around the title.

The strip at the top of the page is brightly coloured and all in bold. This attracts the reader to this inside story. Also the strip uses an explanation mark at the end of this line, to show the urgency of this story and the shock of it.

The main image is covering the whole front page showing that Dave Grohl from the foo fighters is the main story of this issue. He has an angry expression on his face showing attitude and that the rumours aren’t true of his death. This image also gives the sense of importance of Dave as he takes up most of the page.

There is also a main cover line next to the main image that anchors the image, it supports the image telling the reader what it is about and who it is if you didn’t know. The font and style is still similar to the rest of the page but bigger, telling us that this is the main story in this issue.  

Cover lines on each side of the page sating that there is even more big stories inside the magazine. They are both in the same font and style as the rest of the page but bigger, drawing attention to these stories. The pictures beside each of them support the story. There is also another on the bottom of the page, stating something new that you must hear about.

There is a puff in the bottom right corner next to the barcode, this is giving the readers a chance to win some freebies. This will attract readers as people can be attracted by greed. It looks like it has just been stuck on to the page, trying to look like a sticker. This gives a sense of newness of this offer, a once and a life time opportunity.

The barcode in the bottom right corner, it states the issue number and date of this issue. It also keeps out of the way of the other stories, giving more room for them. This is needed for sales of this product.
